Medicines management was inconsistent, with unsecured storage, posing a risk to safe care. Hygiene standards were insufficient in several areas, including essential care equipment, which compromised infection control.
We received mixed feedback from staff. Some told us they felt valued and had manageable workloads, while others reported low morale and feeling unsupported.
There was enough staff to meet people’s needs. Although due to sickness or holidays on a small number of occasions, there had been shortages. Any staff vacancies were now filled and the provider had bank staff to support any future shortages.
Staff training, in places, needed improved. Staff had not received support through regular supervisions or appraisals.
Governance systems were not effective in driving improvements, particularly in medication, environmental risks, and record keeping. Lessons from our previous assessment and internal reviews had not been fully embedded into practice.
People were encouraged to participate in activities, including exercise classes and outings. We have just had a trip to Caldbeck, we have an accessible vehicle for residents to go on visits. We are members of the Engine Lonning club.
