"Staff praised supportive management and felt safe in a strong team culture, but weak recruitment checks and incomplete medication records need improvement."
Accidents and incidents were managed well... However, we found one incident that had not been documented well. This was rectified during the inspection process... medicine records needed to be strengthened.
Staff told us they felt safe in the workplace and did not feel any pressure was put on them. One staff member said, “No pressure, I am very comfortable, the management are very good. We work as a team.”
There were sufficient numbers of trained staff employed. However, recruitment processes were not always robust and some staff did not have a completed application form or references from their most recent employer.
The training matrix and certificates we reviewed evidenced the staff were up to date with their mandatory training and there was a wide range of courses available for staff to further their knowledge.
Staff praised the management team for their knowledge and support. One staff member said, “There is no barrier between (registered) manager and staff, at any time if you have a concern you can go to them.”
We witnessed a range of activities taking place including a singer who was familiar with the service and clearly knew people well. Staff were seen to be dancing with people, colouring and using the electronic tabletop activity table.
Recruitment checks are weak with gaps in job applications and references sometimes from friends instead of recent bosses.
References were not always obtained from the staff members most recent employer and in some cases were from a close friend or relative with no further assessment in place to ensure risks were mitigated.
Medication records miss details like exact times painkillers were given.
when regularly prescribed painkillers were administered, the actual time was not recorded.
Activities are regular but basic like singing, dancing and colouring with no dedicated coordinator or specialist programmes.
Activities were taking place which included group and 1-1 activity... We witnessed a range of activities taking place including a singer... dancing... colouring and using the electronic tabletop activity table.
