"Staff praise the new manager and feel supported with good training, but low staffing levels and basic activities leave people waiting and bored."
Staff had completed training and knew how to keep people safe... The risks to people were assessed and minimised... People were being safely supported to take their medicine... The manager had a system in place to analyse incidents, accidents and safeguarding.
People were supported by a team of staff who were happy in their jobs and well-supported by their managers. Staff told us they felt listened to, valued and the manager was available to support them.
Staff had mixed views about staffing levels. They told us, 'Generally staffing is okay. It requires a lot of time management and it would be nice to be able to spend the time with people...' and people said, 'My biggest concern is that lack of supervision'
Staff told us they received an induction when they began working for the service and completed a variety of training. They said, 'The training here is really good.' 'Our training is up to date... supporting people with dementia recently.' and, 'I am doing my NVQ in care'
Staff spoke positively about the service and the new manager and told us, 'It's a lovely place. I think we have a great team here.' and, 'The new manager is lovely, they know their stuff.'
A part time activity coordinator arranged a programme of activities and entertainment for people... We observed that some people engaged well with the range of group activities provided which included music and sing along, and physical activities and games, but some people told us they would like more to do.
Staffing levels mean staff are often busy and rushed so communal areas go unattended and people sometimes wait for help.
our observation on the first day was that staff were busy and task orientated which meant that communal areas were often left unattended for periods of time. Staff told us, 'It requires a lot of time management... There are times when people may have to wait.'
Activities are basic with just a part-time coordinator so residents say they get bored and want more to do.
A part time activity coordinator arranged a programme of activities... but some people told us they would like more to do... 'It's a bit boring... I would like to get out more. I get bored.'
