Working at Alder House Care Home

Safety risks to people were managed well... People’s medicines were well managed. The home was clean and tidy and people were protected from the risk of the spread of infection.

A staff member told us the registered manager had instilled a positive culture at the home. They said, 'I’ve recommended jobs available at the home. It has a lovely, homely vibe and all staff work together as part of a team... it’s a pleasure to come to work.'

Records showed there were consistently more staff in place than the calculated minimum... Staff felt there were enough staff... 'We do have enough staff on duty - we do have busy days and get a bit overwhelmed but in general staffing is fine.' A small number said they felt more staff were needed at weekends.

Staff received relevant training to meet the range of people’s needs at the service. Staff received support through supervision and appraisal... Staff training requirements were monitored, and any gaps or training needs addressed quickly.

Staff felt the registered manager was approachable and managed the staff well. A staff member told us the registered manager had instilled a positive culture at the home.

A variety of clubs had been put in place following people’s feedback. This included a gardening club and motivational therapy... we observed a well-attended activity about ‘World Book Day’.
