"Staff feel supported by the manager and enjoy a positive culture, although staffing is just adequate and training lacks specialist courses."
Staff received safeguarding training and understood their responsibilities to report concerns. Risks had been appropriately assessed and control measures in place. Medicines were managed safely and people received their medicines as prescribed.
We found morale to be good amongst the staff and all staff we spoke with displayed a positive, caring attitude. The service was small and there was an established care team who all got on well. Staff commented, 'I love working in this small environment'.
There were sufficient numbers of staff to meet the needs of people who currently used the service. Staff told us they felt there were adequate staff. The established staff team ensured a person centred service.
Staff had received a range of training relevant to the needs of people in the service and had regular meetings with their manager to gain support. New staff undertook an induction comprising a mix of training, shadowing and observing.
The manager had worked hard to improve the service since the last inspection. Staff told us that they felt supported by the manager and that communication was effective. Due to the size of the service, the manager also carried out the same work as care staff.
People were involved in activities including keep fit (at a local boxing club), attending community activities, baking, and holidays. Some people also attended a local college to attend Learning for Life.
Staffing levels are adequate but nothing more, with staff describing them as just enough rather than allowing unhurried care.
Staff told us they felt there were adequate staff.
Training covers standard topics like first aid and safeguarding but lacks funded specialist courses or clear career paths for staff.
We looked at the training records which showed staff had completed a range of training courses which included: health and safety, moving and handling, first aid, safeguarding adults, the Mental Capacity Act, and infection control.
Activities offer variety like baking and outings but no dedicated coordinator or innovative programmes to enrich the daily role.
